Andrew "Andy" Navon Mathenia Sr, 57, passed away at home on his 57th birthday Monday, August 11, 2014 in Porterville, California. He was born August 11, 1957 to Lloyd Lannon Mathenia and Mary Frances Kirby in a barn (yes he was born in a barn) in Pixley, California. Andy is a Tulare county native. Growing up, he found himself in a lot of trouble but had a great time being in it. He enjoyed his childhood to the fullest. He loved telling jokes, not just for others amusement, but for his own. He was the type of man that could sell ice to an eskimo. Andy worked hard until he became ill. He never complained about working--he simply did what he needed to do for his family. On March 20, 1994 he married Karen LeeAnn Floyd in Paradise, California after being together for 12 years. Andy was a great man and father even to many kids that were not his own. There are many that looked up to him as a father figure and would have done anything for him because that's how he always treated others. Andy is greatly missed already. Have fun with Uncle Kenneth and Aunt Geneva. We love you Dad. Andy is survived by his wife Karen; his 4 sons, Rickey, Louie, Andy Jr, and Kory Mathenia; 2 daughters, Karen (Sissy) and Misty Mathenia; 10 grandchildren Luke, Cole, Cooper, Aiden, Bailey, Sal, Isabel, Zoey, Autumn, and Summer; 1 sister Kathy Mathenia; 2 brothers Jerry and Terry Mathenia; Mother in law Juanita Whitton; sister in law Cari Cannon; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; 1 brother Kenneth W. Mathenia; and 1 sister Geneva Mathenia Alston; and 1 grandchild Nicole Leanne Mathenia. A time of gathering will be held on Saturday, August 16th from 10:00a.m.-11:30 a.m. at the Whitehurst-Peters-Loyd Funeral Home in Porterville, California.
