Porterville Nazarene Church building fund at 2005 W. Olive St. Edna Markwalder passed away at the age of 99. Edna was born on 1915 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The family moved to Rochester, MN, in the spring of 1920. Here she received her education and graduated from Rochester High School in 1933. Wanting to increase her knowledge of the Bible, she decided to attend North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, MN and graduated from there in 1936. Following graduation, Edna and a co-worker held Daily Vacation Bible Schools and special youth meetings in many Evangelical Churches. After her father died, she and her mother moved to California, living first in Santa Cruz and then settling in San Jose in 1940. Here she attended Heald's Business College and after graduating secured a position as secretary for James Transfer and Storage Company. In August of 1943, she married Edwin A. Markwalder, an accountant with Continental Can Company in San Jose. They were charter members of Bethel Church where she was the president of The Ladies Missionary Society for twenty years. After faithfully attending the church for 48 years, Mrs. Markwalder left San Jose to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Florence and Richard Jordan of Porterville. Other survivors include another daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Harold Bussell of Santa Barbara, a son and daughter-in-law, David and Marsha Garcia Markwalder of Colorado Springs, CO. seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, two sister-in-laws, Beverly Washburn of Minnesota, and Olga Hammond of Sacramento, CA. The visitation will be held on Thursday February 5, 2015 4:30-6:00pm at Whitehurst-Peters-Loyd Chapel, Porterville. A Memorial service will be held on February 9, 2015 11:00am at the Porterville Nazarene Church in Porterville, CA. Friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend.
