Fortino V. Uribe, age 91 and a lifetime resident of Woodville, CA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 20th, 2021. Fortino was born on March 20th, 1930 in El Troncon in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He is one of nine children born to Jertruris Uribe and Concepcion Villareal.\n\nAfter the passing of his father, at age 7, Fortino took on the family responsibilities and began working in farm labor for years before moving to the United States for a brief period. He arrived in Mission, Texas, and began working in agriculture before making his way back to Mexico. He would later make a permanent move back to Texas. In the 1950s, Fortino hitched a ride from Texas to Fresno, CA, and along the route, the owner's truck ran out of gas, and with no money, one of the passengers sold his blood at a nearby medical facility while the remaining passengers waited over an hour on the side of the road. It was on the following day Fortino arrived in Porterville. A few years later, he would go back to Mexico for a visit, and it was here that he met and married Josefina Jasso Villareal. He returned to the US with his wife and made a permanent home in Woodville, CA.\n\nFortino enjoyed the company of his fellow brothers of the Kingdom of Jehovah's Witness. Fortino also enjoyed spending time in his garden tending to his plants and fruit trees, but there was nothing he loved more than his family, especially his beautiful granddaughters. Fortino was preceded in death by his loving wife Josefina Jasso, 4 brothers: Eustorgio Uribe, Dolores Uribe, Katarino Uribe, and Francisco Uribe. 3 sisters: Maria Rojelia Uribe, Maria de la Luz Uribe, Guadalupe Uribe. Fortino leaves behind to cherish his memories, his son Homero Uribe, his two granddaughters, Sarah Uribe and Ella Uribe, his daughter-in-law, Rosemary Alejandre, and other extended family. All those who had the opportunity to have met him were blessed, and he will be deeply missed.\n\nServices will be as follows: visitation will be on Friday, July 2nd, 2021, from 3-7 pm, with a 5 pm service held at Porterville Funeral & Cremation Center.
