Johnny Weldon Jones Obituary (1935 - 2012)

Johnny W. Jones age 77 and a resident of Porterville for 56 years passed away December 8, 2012 in Porterville. Johnny was born in Antlers, OK to Henry(Jack) and Hazel Jones April 2, 1935 and was a 1954 graduate of Antlers High School. He married Betty Sue Roberson September 2, 1954 at Grant, OK and continued his education at Southeastern State until 1956 when they moved to Porterville and he enrolled at Porterville Jr. College. Johnny began his career in Education as a Teacher with Rockford Elementary School before accepting a similar position 8 years later with the Strathmore School District and all the while simultaneously continuing his own education at Fresno State where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts and culminating with a Masters Degree in Administration from Cal State Bakersfield. Johnny served as a Principal for 12 years with the Strathmore School District before retiring in 1994. He liked working with wood, building numerous items over the years including several homes in the area. He enjoyed traveling, music and was an especially enthusiastic supporter of all his grandchildren by attending their countless sporting events, music concerts and dance recitals. Johnny was also a faithful member of the Porterville First Baptist Church where he formerly served on the Church Board and as a Deacon. He was preceded in death by his brother, Horace Dean Jones in 2009. Surviving family includes his Wife Betty Jones of Porterville. 2 Sons: Robby Jones of Porterville and Jason Jones and wife Misook of Porterville. 4 daughters: Joni Sue Halperin and husband Stan of Fontana, Tonya Michelle Vossler and husband Craig of Salinas, Jennifer Lee Anderson and husband David of Vista, Nicole Leann Stock and husband Dan of Ripon. 2 brothers: Arthur Lee Jones of Oklahoma and Charlie Wayne Jones and wife Diana of Texas. 4 sisters: Freddie Pierce and husband Bob of Texas. Martha Thomas and husband Donnie of Oklahoma. Dora Echols-Bacum and husband Shelby of Texas. Nanine Parker and husband Kevin of Arkansas along with 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Visitation will be 4:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday December 13, at Whitehurst-Peters-Loyd Chapel. Funeral Services will be 10:00am Friday December 14, also at Whitehurst-Peters-Loyd Chapel followed by interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Porterville.
