Lupe M. Cordova age 88 and a 53 year resident of Porterville was called Home to be with the Lord on June 7, 2016 in Porterville. She was born in Mexicali, Mexico to Jose and Maria Martinez on January 24, 1928 and moved to California where she met Robert A. Hernandez whom she married in 1942. Robert passed away in 1946 while in the Army serving overseas. In 1952 Lupe married Rafael Cordova and in 1963 they settled permanently in Porterville. Lupe has always been a woman of strong faith and has touched many lives. In 1949 Lupe became a member of the Guadalupe Society in Mendota, California. She helped raise funds to build the first Catholic Church in Mendota where she sang in the choir and evangelized in many homes in the area. After moving to Porterville in 1963, Lupe continued in the Guadalupe Society. She later joined the Cursillo Society. She participated for many years in the Jamaica fundraisers at the Guadalupe Mission and the annual Guadalupe Dinner Dance. These fundraisers helped to purchase the property, which was later needed to build the Holy Cross Church. For twenty plus years, Lupe also served as a Eucharistic Minister and Minister to the sick at St. Anne's Parish. She also taught Catechism at St. Anne's School. During her remaining years, she still managed to serve every week at the St. Anne's Chapel of Adoration. Every day, she prayed for all her loved ones. She liked to share the vegetables she grew in her garden and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family as much as possible. Lupe was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and will be dearly missed by those she touched. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert A. Hernandez in 1946 and husband Rafael Cordova in 1999 along with 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Surviving family includes her son Robert Hernandez Cordova and wife Alice of Porterville. Daughter Sylvia Cordova Chavez and husband Frank along with 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
