Pedro "Pete" Martinez Sr. age 73 and a 55 year resident of Porterville passed away February 2, 2012 in Porterville. "Pete" was born to Pablo and Trinidad Martinez June 20, 1938 in Mexico and moved to Porterville in 1956. He soon met Delores Garfield and on November 9, 1959 they were married at Porterville's St. Anne's Catholic Church. Pete worked several years with the hot shot fire fighting crew named Black Eagles before settling into a long career in agriculture working for Ed Doyle Farms. He liked being close to home with Delores and the kids and would spend many hours working outside in his yard. He enjoyed fishing at Lake Success, watching the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs and Little League World Series on TV and occasionally playing the slots at Eagle Mountain Casino. Pete was a man of simple tastes and was always content to be at home around friends and family. He is survived by his wife Delores Martinez of Porterville. 4 sons: Nick and wife Lori Martinez of Porterville. Rick Martinez of Springville. Pete Martinez Jr. and wife Dolores of Chino. Paul Martinez of Porterville. 2 daughters: Anna Trujillo and Christina Jaquez both of Porterville. Brother Tony Martinez of Porterville along with 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Visitation will be at Whitehurst-Peters-Loyd Chapel Saturday February 11th beginning at 11:00am followed by the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00pm. Burial will be private.
