Robert (Bob) Martin Burkhart entered this world on May 13, 1943 and departed September 21, 2015. Robert was the son of John Burkhart and Madelyn Pierson Burkhart. He attended school at St. Anne's in Porterville , Jefferson Elementary in Lindsay and graduated from Exeter High School in 1964. Robert was an avid sports fan. He never wanted to miss a televised game of the Lakers, Notre Dame or Fresno State. Bob often wore a shirt and baseball cap to support his favorite team. Bill Sharman, a close family friend, was his all-time sports hero. Bob would tell about meeting Harry Carey, announcer for the Chicago Cubs. He was privileged to attend many Major League ball games. A highlight of his life was being an assistant baseball coach for the City of Lindsay Minor League from 1982-1995. Robert enjoyed music and enjoyed singing groups. During his years at Sierra View Retirement Home and Porterville Convalescent, he never wanted to miss a musical performance. Robert was preceded in death by his father, John Burkhart, mother Madelyn Burkhart, grandparents, John and Hattie Burkhart and George and Margaret Pierson, aunts, Mary Katherine Burkhart and Doris Burkhart and cousins, Elizabeth (Betty) Spees. He is survived by one brother, Ronald Burkhart of Morro Bay, sister-in-law, Carol of Morro Bay. Niece, Allison Root and her husband Robert od Paso Robles and two great nieces, Lauren Root and Jillian Root of Paso Robles, cousins Joe and Alice McGinnis of Chicago. The family would like to thank the staff of Porterville Convalescent and Sierra View Hospital , especially Dr. Lisa and Nurse Michael , for their excellent care. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, September 28, 2015 from 2:00 - 7:00 pm at Whitehurst-Peters-Loyd Chapel. Graveside service will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at St. Anne's Cemetery.
