Rosa Elia Martinez age 57 and a resident of Porterville for 55 years passed away March 7, 2013 at her home in Porterville. Rosa was born September 24, 1955 at Del Rio, TX to Mateo and Enriqueta Martinez who moved to Porterville when she was 2 years old. She received her education in Porterville and particularly enjoyed participating in the choir program at Monache High School prior to her graduation in 1974. Rosa was employed at the Lindsay Ripe Olive Plant for many years but when it closed she decided to enroll at Porterville College in hopes of expanding her career opportunities. During the next several years while working part time jobs and raising her 4 children she still managed to graduate with an Associates of Arts degree and then began a new career as a Preschool teacher for the Porterville First Baptist Church. Even though her favorite singer was Vicente Fernandez, Rosa loved all kinds of music and just as much as she loved to listen to music, she also loved dancing to it. BBQ's and gatherings with her children and other family members were always the most joyful and meaningful times for her. She was a very loving and caring women who was too many at heart a very social butterfly. Illness took her from us too soon, but we who knew and loved her are thankful for the wonderful memories she gave us as a gift, to forever cherish in our hearts. Her family includes her son Michael Martinez and wife Areli of Porterville. 3 daughters: Melissa Chandi, Michele Chandi and Melinda Chandi all of Porterville. 5 brothers: Robert Martinez Sr., Efrain Martinez, Benigno Martinez, Alfredo Martinez, Johnny Martinez and Epimenio Martinez. 3 sisters: Mary Cadena, Diamantina Castaneda and Yolanda Martinez along with 13 grandchildren. Visitation will be 10:00am to 1:00pm Sunday March 10, at Whitehurst-Peters-Loyd Funeral Chapel and a Funeral Service will begin at 1:00pm, also at Whitehurst-Peters-Loyd Chapel. Interment will be private.
